I’ve decided to do a crazy, melancholic orchestral remix of one of my songs! Can you figure out which one? I wanted to approach the more familiar melodies from a different direction, so people don’t recognize it right away. This is also my first time composing and mixing my music entirely in Pro Tools (I’ve decided to finally make the switch from Sony Acid Pro!)

Some of you will recognize this work in progress, which I uploaded back in July. I’ve added some new material after the 2 minute mark. The concept that keeps coming to mind for this piece is “ice and fire,” the burning sensation that they share, the contrast of violence and tranquility. Does the second half of this song feel like an interesting change, or does it sound totally out-of-place with the first half? Are you more drawn to the “chill” or the “noise?” Leave some timed comments and let me know what you think!
Sort of a spiritual successor to another one of my songs, “Run, Run, You Gunslinger!” This is a fusion of acoustic guitar, post-rock, electronica and symphonic orchestra. Throw some timed comments down and let me know what you think! :)
Here’s a new song I’m working on! It’s designed to be played at the LOUDEST volume you are comfortable with! Really dark and edgy. Badass even. The mix still needs a lot of work, but I hope you enjoy it :)
Here’s a companion piece to the song I posted earlier this month. The usual rock instrumentation, with some piano and bells thrown in. I was really surprised by how well the bell flourishes meshed with everything else, so I kept peppering them in here and there.
Some happy corporate music that didn’t make the cut. I still think it’s fun, though. Lots of major chords!
This weekend, I returned to work on an orchestral song that I began composing back in 2009. It still doesn’t feel finished to me (I wonder if it ever will) — but I made some good progress. Here’s a small sample:
Well, it’s been far too long! This is a song I’m working on for a friend’s new film project. My goal here was to create some sort of gloomy post-rock music, using the sound of playing a wineglass with a wet finger as the centerpiece. Then a bunch of other instruments come in to join it!
This week brings a relaxing and pleasant piece of music. Electric guitars, acoustic guitars, drums. Probably the biggest influence for me here is the ambient post-rock band, Hammock — except, as my friend said, this song is “more jangly.” I definitely can’t wait to flesh this one out into a full-length song!
After a couple of busy weeks, I finally have some more music to share! I wanted to stretch my fingers and try out some more piano-centric stuff. Gotta get some more practice with melodies. After recording the piano part, I started playing around with the microphone to make some really ambient vocals. I ended up improvising most of it, then going back to mix everything together and tweak a few notes here and there. It’s kind of rough around the edges, but I think the build towards the end works really well!
